This article looked at how tinnitus, or ringing in the ears, can be improved after treatment for sudden hearing loss. The researchers studied 137 patients with tinnitus who received treatment for their sudden hearing loss. They found that the type of hearing loss pattern, the pitch of the tinnitus, and the severity of the tinnitus before treatment were all important factors in predicting how well the tinnitus improved after treatment. Patients with a certain type of hearing loss pattern and lower pitch tinnitus were more likely to have better improvement in their tinnitus after treatment. This study helps doctors understand which patients might benefit the most from treatment for tinnitus after sudden hearing loss.
