What is tinnitus?

Tinnitus is the perception of a sound that does not come from an external source. It is often described as ringing, buzzing, hissing, humming, or electrical noise. Scientifically, tinnitus is not a disease in itself but a symptom of changes in the auditory system and inhow the brain processes sound.
